Salary has been revised effective from 1/1/2016 in 7th pay commission. According to which the starting basic salary of Assistant Enforcement Officer would be 44,900 Rs in 7th pay commission. DA (Dearness Allowance) would be 0% from 1/1/2016 but it would be revised from July-2016 and so on. Apart form DA you’d also get HRA ( Housing Rent Allowance ) and TA ( Travelling Allowance ) which are different for various class of cities. You would also get TA/DA in this post while on tour. Work profile of Assistant Enforcement Officer
Just like Central Excise Inspector,Preventive Officer,Examiner or Income Tax Inspector, you would work as an executive officer with Department of Revenue in the Ministry of Finance of India. Your work would involve both desk and field tasks. While in the desk/office posting, you would deal with files an other clerical work like making reports and brochures/presentations. While in the field posting, you would work towards nabbing the economic crimes. You would also join the raid company when it goes somewhere for a raid. You may also have to go for the recce to gather intelligence about money laundering or other crime of economic nature. Promotion of Assistant Enforcement Officer
Promotion wise, this post is one of the best posts among all SSC CGL posts as you would most probably get your first promotion of Enforcement Officer (EO) in around 4-6 years. Enforcement Officer is a Group – B Gazetted post with the Grade Pay of 4800/- Rs. The second promotion is to The Assistant Director of Enforcement Directorate (A.D., ED), which generally takes time of around 4-5 years. After that, promotions are faster. Next promotions from this post would be, Deputy Director of Enforcement Directorate, Joint Director, Additional Director and Special Director in Enforcement Directorate. If you join at the AEO level, you would reach till Additional Director or Special Director level which depends on your age when you join.

It depends a lot on your personality as this is a one hectic job with a lot of field work. There are possibilities of uncertain longer hours which can disturb your family commitments so decide after considering all the factors. Though, this being a good interview post, it should be in Top-10 of your SSC CGL preference list but I recommend that you keep it after ITI, Central Excise Inspector, Assistant CSS or other Assistant posts.
