  3. After reading the CGL notification I was totally confused about the posts preferences . Thank you so much for this valuable information Sir .
    Sir,
I am a B.Tech. graduate female Candidate from Kerala.
Please suggest suitable posts for female candidates (work at desk ) having no particular requirement like physical test etc and can also get a home town based posting if needed.
I think all the B Group posts either need physical test or have to settle whole life in DELHI .
After reading your articles I found Income tax Inspector(group C),Assistant in Ministry of Railways(group B) are some good options .Please guide me.

    • Examiner and ITI are the best posts which are offered into SSC CGL exam. They should be in your top 3 or 4 in any kind of situation. Assistant in CVC should be around 8,9,10 numbers in your preference list. Take your decision after considering all the factors about these posts. Read and know more, ask some friends who are working in these departments, use your own mind and then take your decision.

Wishing you bright success in your career.

    • Can’t say right now but you should try to get more than 500 out of 600 to get near to this post. Competition has increased a lot and so are scores. Only hard workers who are regular in studies and smart to know all the new things regarding to subjects will be able to get job in these kind of popular posts. Keep working hard and smart and be regular in whatever schedule you adopt.

Best luck to you for success.

    • Yes but not for all posts. For some posts like Central Excise Inspector, Preventive Officer, SI in CBI etc. certain physical standards are required. Check official notification of SSC CGL 2016 to know more about that.

Wish you best of luck for your career.

  4. I want to prepare for Civil Services so staying in Delhi is a priority . Inspector jobs would mean postings at any location. So in that case what should my preferernces be ? So that it does not hamper my further studies .

    Thanks in advance .

    • Most of the Assistant posts are based in Delhi so you should put them higher in your preference list. It’s not like you can’t get post of Inspector in Delhi but there’s too much competition. You should try to score very high to get Inspector post in Delhi. If and when preferences are asked, you can opt for Delhi. Also, there would be some workload in any Inspector post so your first preference should be to get some Assistant post in Delhi.

Wish you best of luck for success. Thanks.

    • Don’t worry much about it. It’s as good as group B post for everything. You get same salary and other benefits. Also promotion is much faster than other inspector posts so just go for it.

WIsh you best luck for success.

  5. My home state is andhra pradesh. My desired post is income tax inspector. Is it possible to get posting in my home state? I want to settle in my home state and after promotion transfer I don’t want to go to another state. Is it possible? Please clarify my doubt sir.

    • Yes, it’s possible. Try and score very high in SSC CGL 2016 and get Income Tax Inspector post. Either you would be asked for state preference or they would give you posting in your home state or nearby state. Once you get posting in your home state, you can manage your posting and transfer there. Though there are chances that you may have to go to other states also as all SSC CGL posts come with all India service liability but more or less people stay in the same state in these jobs.

May luck be on your side. Thanks.

  6. Hii,
I am a B.Tech grad from Assam , I am planning to give this exam I was planning to write CAT along with this. Can you tell the difficulty level and I have a doubt for TIER 2 EXAM , what all subjects to select if someone is a B.TECH?

    • Difficulty level is generally less than CAT exam but you can’t say anything for sure. There are no subjects to choose in SSC CGL as all papers are compulsory. Only for the posts of Statistical Investigator, Compiler and Assistant Audit Officer, you are required to appear for one or two extra papers like Statistics and GS (Finance and Economics). Read official notification of SSC CGL 2016 to know more about all the things.

Wish you best luck for success.

  7. Hi sir,
Can you please tell me an approximate cut off for getting selected for Income tax inspector in Delhi.
Can an income tax inspector be transferred to other locations and what is the criteria for the same?

    • Can’t give you a fix number but you should try to score in 500+ range to get that kind of posting in Delhi. Transfers are possible but they depends on many factors which you’d know when you join the job. But yes, they do happen and if you persevere and have a valid reason, you may be able to get transfer. Nothing is sure in advance so work hard and hope for the best.

Thanks and best luck for success.

    • Leaving Sub Inspector in CBI and Sub- Inspector in National Investigation Agency, no specific requirement is given in official notification for other posts. But also, according to them “Persons with visual disability of less than forty percent will not be considered as
      visually handicapped persons.”

Also, all assistant posts accept candidates with lower vision (LV). Also SSA post (Code:Y) accepts LV candidates. So, take decision considering all these things. You can apply for Assistant and SSA posts and if your disability is less than 40% then you can apply for almost all posts. Refer to official notification for more information and final interpretation.

Thanks and wish you best of luck for success.

    • No, there would be no interviews in SSC CGL 2016. According to official notification “Interview component has been dispensed with. There will, therefore, be no interview.”

      Thanks and best of luck.

    • Income Tax Inspector, Central Excise Inspector, AEO, AAO, Divisional Accountant and Auditor are some good posts which are available all over the country (in every state) and so there are good chances of getting the posting in your home state.

Thanks and best luck for success.

  11. As there will be no interview for SSC cgl from this year. Can u pls tell me by looking previous years cut off, what score is required for iti this year, excluding interview marks?

    • It can’t be said easily as it depends on many things like vacancies and difficulty level etc. You should try to score as high as possible but if you can get more than 500 out of 600 (Tier – I and Tier – II) then there would be good chances for selection as an ITI.

      Best luck for success.

  12. Sir,
I have regular 3 yrs Diploma in ECE (10+3) and BCA (Distance education). May I know BCA Distance is eligible for exam? If not, Can I appear with Diploma in ECE?

    • Graduation is required to apply for SSC CGL. Thanks and best luck.

    • This is a group B post. There is no interview in SSC CGL 2016 but you have to clear all three tiers of CGL exam to get this job.

      Best luck for your career.

    • You can appear for SSC CGL only after completing graduation so focus on that for now. You can appear in SSC CHSL after passing 12th so you may try for that.

      Best luck for your career.

  14. Sir
the degree from state open university just like netaji subhash open university , is granted in ssc cgl or not ? Sir I am a mathematics graduate from nsou in bengali medium . So in document verification wp log mera certificate except koregi yea fir reject kor degi ?

    • By clearing SSC CGL exam, you can get a job of Income Tax Inspector. After one promotion in this job, you’d become Income Tax Officer.

By clearing UPSC and getting IRS cadre in CBDT, you can become Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax which is the higher post than ITO. You can choose any or try for both.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

    • Work hard and clear SSC CGL and you can get a job for sure. You’d also get a benefit of handicapped reservation.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

    • If you can pass and get a result of your final year before 1/8/2016 then you are eligible for SSC CGL 2016. Read official notification carefully to know more about the same.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  15. is transfer mandatory for ITI once i get posted in delhi. i want live in delhi for entire posting.
    is it possible for ITI.
provided i get marks required for ITI delhi.
    (please reply)
i have searched for this everywhere but no definite answer i got.

    • You can try and stay in Delhi (Not 100% sure though as it’s Govt of India’s discretion where to post you but generally you can stay in the state you are posted initially) till you get promotion to Group A post. Once you are promoted to Group A post which is of The Assistant Commissioner (AC) here, you are generally transferred to another state. That’s also not for 100% as many people succeed to remain in the home state even after getting this promotion. So instead of thinking this long, try and get a job of ITI (Income Tax Inspector) in Delhi (It’s tough though, you have to score very high, but possible). Leave other things for the future and hope for the best.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  16. Thanks a lot for replying ๐Ÿ™‚
i am first year graduation student but i will leave no stone unturned to achieve it.
    thanks for the wishes too.

  17. Sir, I had filled (by mistake) first preference as Assistant in Ministry of Railway and second preference as ITI. If I score sufficiently high to get ITI post but since my filled preference is Ministry of Railway (whose cutoff is usually lower than ITI), which post I will be given? I am interested in being an ITI actually. Please help
By the way thanks for the above useful description.

    • You’d get a post which is ahead in the preference list i.e. Assistant (Railway) in your case. If by any chance SSC asks you to give preferences again then correct it otherwise it is done.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  18. Sir, my height is 156 cm. Am I eligible for Income Tax Inspector post based on my physical standard? Or 157.5 cm height is mandatory for IT Inspector post?

  19. sir am not eligible for cgl exam coz am a graduation student. if i give the exam next year 2k17 just for practice then will this create any problem. I heard they take thumb impression and signatures.
tell me should i give it for practice or wait for my time(when i will be eligible).

    • You should apply and appear in the exam only when you are eligible for it. I’d advise against applying just for practice. You can do practice at home with old question papers.

      Best wishes for your career.

  20. Hello sir..
I am looking for inspector in income tax..my question is..
is there any pressure from higher officers in department like as state police inspectors..

    • I don’t know much about State Police but if you want to work honestly then you should be fine. There may be a workload once in a while but other than that you can easily complete your work in office hours in ITI job.

      Best wishes for your career.

  21. Hi !!! I am currently working in Income Tax Department. my posting is in Delhi. i got selected through CGL 2012. i want to know if I appear for CGL 2017 and switch to some other department, do i carry forward my 3 years of service. What will be pros and cons of this switch over ?

    Thanks in anticipation!!!

    Lokesh Bhati

    • Hi lokesh,
I am a student who want to become Income tax inspector.

But as you said you wanted to leave IT department…….I want to know why do you want to leave ?…..is there any problem in IT inspector job?…..Please reply me

      Thanks in advance๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

  22. Sir, do we get a chance to give state preference, in inspector posts, after having cleared the cgl exam?,or,are we given the state where we reside, by default?

    • In earlier SSC CGL Exams, the state preference was also being asked along with post preference but since last two exams only post preference has been asked. When you are not asked for state preference, you’d generally be posted in your home state or nearby state as long as possible. Otherwise you may be posted in any state/cadre wherever the vacancies are.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  23. Hello sir,
I want to know posting policy for income tax officer,as i am girl and my parents won’t allow me to go out side the city.
I am worried weather there is any provision for getting placed in selected city.

    • Posting in only one particular city is a tough ask. If you try and score high then posting in your home state can be a real possibility. Though, get a job first of all and then try and request concerned department explaining your situation. They may consider your request if there’s a possibility.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  24. Hi Sir,
If I get selected in my own state as a ITI after high scoring
How is the transfer policy inside state?
Or in the same district I need to work till retirement?
On request can I transfer to my home district?
And can I work in my home district till I retire?

    • Such things depend on policy of department in your home state. Generally, you are transferred across various places so you may get to work in your home district and other districts also. You can also request for particular place if you have ground for that but accepting that request depends totally on discretion of department.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  25. Sir I am married and my husband belongs to Chennai.. what posts should I choose so that I can stay permanently in Chennai. Please guide

    • Permanent stay in one city is hardly guaranteed in govt jobs. But, if you belong from Chennai then you can try to get a job of PO in Customs or Examiner of Customs. Chennai being a bigger port, you may stay there for a long time or may be for a life time. There’s also a chance of Chennai or Tamil nadu posting in posts like Central Excise Inspector, ITI, DA etc. Get more info before taking final decision.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  26. Dear sir/ma’amโ˜บโ˜บ

I have completed my graduation with B. Com.
I am search a reputated Govt. Job with good salary & respect.

I am confused between BANK PO job and Income tax inspector job. Which job is best for me??…… & from which institute should i take coaching ?? & which writter book i must give priority??

    Thanks in advance๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

    • Only you can decide which is the best job for you according to your talent and your liking. Both are good jobs but if you ask for my suggestion then I would advise you to go for ITI (Income Tax Inspector) job. Take your own decision after considering everything.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

    • Good chances if you score high and get a good rank. Transfer etc depend on the respective department, so can’t comment on that here.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  27. sir, i am currently working as inspector central excise, Rajasthan(Home state) selected through SSC CGL-2014 and now got income tax inspector, Rajasthan(Home state) through SSC CGL-2015.
    I am confused…what should i do??
as GST will replace present central excise and Customs then what will be better in overall manner, Central Excise Inspector or Income Tax Inspector??

    • I’d advise to go for Income Tax Inspector as it has better promotion chances and career growth. It’s my view and you should consider all the factors affecting you before taking final call.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

        • Can’t say just now. Wait till the complete roll over of GST happen and then one can assume according to the new structure and the vacancy position.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  28. what should be the cut off for general candidate to get ITI posting in andhra pradesh,I mean lets say if the over all cutoff is 530, what may be safe score for andhra posting

    • As a rule, we don’t speculate on scores and cut offs. If you want to get a job of IT inspector in your home state, try and get as high score as possible.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  29. hiii sir, kaise mai janungi ki mera iti department m hua hai ya nai i mean kya procedure hoga fynl tier 3 k result k bad plz reply me.. ..

    • There would be a notice on the official site of SSC so no need to worry about it. Once you are selected in some department then your documents would be sent to that respective department. Further process like medical, physical tests etc. would happen there. After completion of the process, you’d get the appointment letter and then you join the job. That’s it.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

  30. Sir,
I have regular 3 years diploma in DAE(architecture diploma from ICE university). May i know this diploma is eligible for ssc CBDT exam?

    • Graduation is required to apply for SSC CGL. I don’t think diploma holders are eligible to apply for SSC CGL. Read upcoming official notification of SSC CGL to know more about it.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.

Thanks and best wishes for your career.
