What is Staff Selection Commission (SSC)?

Staff Selection Commission which is normally referred as SSC is Government Of India organization which works towards recruitment of staff in various Government Of India departments and ministries. It was established on 4th November 1975. Initially, it was known as The Sub-ordinate Services Commission. It was named Staff Selection Commission (SSC) from 26 September 1977.

Every year, SSC (Staff Selection Commission) makes recruitment for Group-B non-gazetted posts and Group – C non technical posts along with some other posts in Government Of India. What is SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level)?

Combined Graduate Level (CGL) is a yearly recruitment exam which is conducted by SSC (Staff Selection Commission). Through this exam, recruitment to various Group-B Non-Gazetted posts and Group-C Non-Technical posts is done by SSC. Who can appear in SSC CGL exam?

As the name suggests, if you have completed a graduation from any subject or any stream from a recognised college/university, you can appear for CGL (Combined Graduate Level) exam. Even if you are in the final year of graduation, you can apply for SSC CGL but you would have to get your result before the date decided by Staff Selection Commission. Read official notification to know more about that and the date before which you have to get your graduation degree or result. There is no requirement of minimum marks or percentages. Just pass the final year successfully and you are good to go.

What is the age limit to apply for SSC CGL?

The upper limit is 27 years for most of the SSC CGL posts for general candidates without any reservation. For some posts it’s 30 and for one post it is 32. Refer to the above given table to know more about age limit for SSC CGL. Age relaxation for many categories is available according to the government rules. You can know more about that when you read the notification of the SSC CGL exam but we can give you a general idea here.

All the age relaxations are available in the upper limit only. It is 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST. For ex-servicemen general category candidates, it’s 03 years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on the Closing date for receipt of application. If you are OBC category ex-serviceman, you would get 6 years(3 years + 3 years) after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on the Closing date for receipt of application. For SC/ST category ex-serviceman, it is 8 years(3 years + 5 years) after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age as on the Closing date for receipt of application.

In the same manner, if you are a central govt. civilian employee working for 3 or more years, you would get age relaxation of 5 years in the upper limit if you are in general category. For OBC and SC/ST category, 3 and 5 years would be added to the age relaxation respectively.

What is the application fee for SSC CGL?

It is just 100 Rs as it is a government recruitment exam. Also, All Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from paying application fee, as per extant government orders.
