There are mainly two kinds of work in the NSSO. The first is collecting the data and the second is processing the data. If you are posted into data collection then your job would be to collect data from the field. This includes some travelling also. You would required to conduct surveys and other methods to gather the data. There would be some work load in this post but that is manageable. You can also complete your job faster in the field posting and relax after that, nobody should bother you once you are done with your task. In this posting your work would be handled and monitored by FOD (Field Operations Division) of the NSSO.

If you are posted into data processing section then your work would involve preparing extensive statistical reports for various government ministries/departments/organisations using the data gathered by the field staff or FOD. This is the desk posting where generally you would not required to travel.
